A letter from our CEO: Reflecting on the COVID-19 pandemic

April 29, 2020

Dear Partners,

This is a time like no other in our lives. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to produce uncertainty, stress and trauma in our communities. By now, we have all been impacted by this virus, which has been devastating for so many. Despite the challenges we are all facing every day, this is also a time that is bringing out the best in many people—from the healthcare staff and first responders fighting on the front-lines, to the essential workers providing food, products and services. On behalf of everyone at PDI, Sani Professional and Tru-D, we are incredibly thankful to all of you serving and caring for those in need. We are proud to play a critical role in this fight by partnering with you and supporting you.

It is our goal to fill every order on time and to help protect those on the front lines when they need it, while having plenty of inventory on hand to ensure there are never any gaps in the supply chain. We have made huge strides towards these goals, but unfortunately, we are in the same position as many other companies. Demand is continuing to exceed every expectation, and we haven’t yet been able to fulfill our goal completely. This has been compounded by our location in New York, the epicenter of the outbreak.

Like everyone reading this, this is a personal fight and rest assured, we won’t stop until we are able provide what everyone needs. With the progress our communities are making, things are looking up.

When the pandemic erupted, we took immediate steps to ensure supply continuity of our essential infection prevention and food safety products needed to protect lives during this crisis, and every day we are working around the clock to fulfill your requirements. We have ramped up production, hired new team members, and maximized shifts and line capacity, while we produce and ship seven days a week. We are sparing no expense or effort. We are now steadily moving forward and shipping more product every week as we adjust to operating in this changed world.

Our number one priority has always been to keep our employees safe and protected. During this time of increased production, we have implemented additional rigorous cleaning and hygiene protocols throughout our facilities and are practicing other safety precautions including social distancing, daily screening, and temperature checks to protect our employees. I am incredibly proud of our associates coming to work every day and putting others before themselves to produce our essential products during this unprecedented time.

We are a fourth generation, family-owned company that has weathered good times and bad, ups and downs, and everything in-between. The strength, restless sacrifice, compassion around us, and the level to which global communities are coming together through this pandemic has been extraordinary and inspiring. Because of this, we will emerge from this much stronger and more resilient in the future.

We are all in this together. Our sales and clinical teams are always here to assist you, and we encourage you to reach out at any time. In the meantime, please stay safe and healthy, and thank you again for all you are doing to Be The Difference in the fight to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and save lives.

With respect and gratitude,

Zachary T. Julius
Chief Executive Officer

Manufacturing Through COVID-19 Pandemic: Meeting Customer’s Needs One Wipe at a Time

PDI continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic (SARS-CoV-2) and its impact on both our customers and our regular business operations. Our number one priority is the protection of our employees, families and customers.  We have taken rigorous protective actions to ensure the safety of our employees so that we can continue to meet customer needs with minimal interruptions.

We understand the urgency around preparing for this pandemic in the United States and have implemented the following measures:

Supply Chain:

When concerns over COVID-19 first surfaced, PDI conducted a full supply chain assessment in anticipation of the increased demand. This assessment included evaluating capacity as well as raw material availability.

Our products are manufactured in the United States, with a robust supply chain that is well positioned to address increased demand. As such, PDI does not rely on manufacturing in China or other countries impacted by COVID-19.

PDI has sufficient inventory of raw materials, and we do not anticipate any supply chain disruption due to raw material availability.

 Production:

On March 19, 2020, PDI was deemed as an essential business per New York State guidance and will remain in full operation.

As global demand for certain infection prevention products exceeds supply, PDI is working with existing partners and customers to ensure they are adequately supported. As a result, PDI has:

  • Ramped up production, including hiring workers, adding shifts and line capacity.
  • Increased production of our infection prevention products, including surface disinfectants and hand sanitizers.
  • Some non-essential products may be deprioritized and as a result may see longer lead times

 Worker Safety:

Employee safety is a critical priority every day and especially now. PDI has developed preparedness plans to help protect the safety of our employees, while safely continuing business operations. This includes implementing the most effective and current safety measures for our operational workers including higher frequency facility cleaning, hygienic best practices and social distancing.  We have also eliminated all international business travel and all ‘non-critical’ domestic airline business travel, consistent with the United States government policy.

 Distribution:

PDI has seen a sharp increase in orders, and we are working closely with our business partners to manage the ongoing shifts in demand.

Learn More:

As this is a rapidly evolving situation, we will continue to monitor the CDC website for resources and further guidance. In the meantime, we recommend that the general public continue to observe good personal hygiene practices, including hand washing, respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette, as well as surface disinfection using an EPA-registered product. Visit the CDC website to learn more.

PDI’s Commitment to Volunteering and Service Continues on Eighth-Annual Be the Difference® Day

PDI Supports Local Hygiene and Hunger Organizations

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. – June 18, 2019 – PDI, a leader in infection prevention products and solutions for its customers, hosted its eighth-annual Be The Difference® Day at its manufacturing facility in Orangeburg, NY. This company-wide initiative engages with local Rockland County charitable organizations, including People to People, Inc., Center for Safety and Change, and Meals on Wheels Rockland, through the assembly and distribution of non-perishable food packages and cleanliness kits.

Be The Difference Day has long-standing ties to Rockland County, with government formally recognizing the day in 2012 as an acknowledgement of PDI’s history of social and economic support for the local community.

“Our PDI family has always been passionate about giving back, and it’s so energizing to see our associates rallying around the Orangeburg manufacturing site to engage in this important annual event,” said Zachary T. Julius, Chief Executive Officer, PDI. “We are honored to continue our partnerships with Rockland County organizations that create so much positive impact in the community.”

PDI associates built over 2,100 hygiene kits from Clean The World that were distributed to People to People and Center for Safety and Change. PDI also supported Meals on Wheels through the assembly of over 1,000 “Blizzard Bags,” non-perishable food packages that are delivered to the community’s most vulnerable citizens when the organization’s standard food deliveries are interrupted by inclement weather conditions and other emergencies.

“PDI has been a thoughtful and active partner in our efforts to help Rockland County’s residents for years,” said Diane Serratore, Executive Director, People to People, Inc. “We are deeply grateful for their continued commitment to the community.”

This year’s Be the Difference Day celebration follows the opening of PDI’s new headquarters in Bergen County, NJ in February, expanding the company’s presence in that location while continuing to operate its core manufacturing and in-bound supply chain center in Orangeburg, NY with approximately 650 employees. This growth and development offers the opportunity for PDI employees to give back in both locations through company-wide volunteering and community service initiatives.
